I love the idea of showing off my jewelry in a cutesy minimalistic way. I came up with hanging it on twine with mini clothespins so it would look like it was part of the wall. Also, this helps necklaces from getting knotted with each other.

What you need: a hammer, twine, mini-clothespins, regular nails or screws with fancy hardware.

Put in the two nails or screws exactly where you want them. Tie the twine to one of them and measure out how much you’ll need to reach the second one. Give yourself some extra as you can always cut it later. Make sure the twine is taut. The jewelry will bring it down and make the twine sag a bit. Be creative with how you pin on the jewelry. I was able to get even rings and bangles properly secured. With heavy objects I used multiple pins.

By now, everyone knows I love jewelry. Most of all, I love solitaires. This is an idea that’s been swirling around my brain juices for quite some time, using gold and other alloyed metals as stones – cut like stones, set like stones, but with the intense metallic of metal. Lots of alloys could be used for this, as long as they were water resistant. The metal “stone” doesn’t touch any skin – so no problems with skin reactions or allergies. I think a copper alloy, gold, black rhodium or hematite-like metal. Champagne colors, a deep violet alloy. Possibilities are endless, especially when you consider all the colors titanium can be anodized into.

Gold and silver could be hammered instead of casted or diamond cut. The hammered look is great, and this would elevate it to a very precise level. Silver can be plated lots of colors using alloys.
I reserve all rights to this – and I hope to make it one day, when I have access to a silversmithing studio.

Oh yeah – the band. It could be pyrex glass but I’d start with silver at first – I have no idea how I’d set a stone in glass. Whatever the color of the “stone” is, the band should contrast it.

Today is the last day of the first decade of the second millennium. Basically, today is just another day. Victor is impressed. He must’ve seen my new hair color. Tonight I’ll probably grab a burger or eat some other unhealthy food while watching How I met your Mother, or working, or perhaps sleeping.

As far as shopping goes, I bought two things today. I saw these items almost a year ago and fell in love with them, but held back to save money. They went on sale today, but it was still a little pricey. I decided to get them instead of getting cheaper junk. Might as well spend more for something you truly love, right? They were created by a young jewelry designer from Istanbul named Gokce. She’s won numerous awards. Her style is simplistic, yet precise. I added her on facebook, but I think she turned me down. Heh.
