I don’t know why I noticed this, but Megan Fox has a new tattoo
There was a post on dlisted today about Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green doing nothing on a beach and I noticed that she has a new tattoo. At least I think it’s new, I googled a bit and found no mention of it. It’s on her side (not the same tattoo about a little girl having her heart broken). It’s on the other side. It’s hard to read but with a little photoshop I’m almost sure it says:
Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who could not hear the music.
I know a lot of people hate Megan’s tattoos, but I think they’re pretty cute. Sometimes too many word-based tattoos can look weird and … book-like. She has 3 long ones and one name. She’s probably got her fill of quotes and poems.
I wish I could pull off red lips.
Heaven knows I’ve tried, but it often ends up looking goofy. Adriana Lima has a similar skin color to mine, and she can totally pull it off. But then again she’s really pretty and has full lips. The life of a pink-lipped girl is a disappointing one.
On getting dressed in the morning.
I don’t understand fashion, but I like it. I like looking at it. I like complaining about stupid trends, and sometimes caving in. Getting dressed in the morning has always been a challenge for me. At one point, I think 10th or 11th grade, I went out, bought a pack of white t-shirts, and wore those for a couple months, alternating between jeans. I just hate thinking about fashion, because nobody can decide weather its subjective or objective.
Because of this, I think it’s alot like photography. People take lots of pointless photographs, of their drunk friends, their pets, stuff they sell on ebay. But then there’s also artistic photography, that inspires a sense of awe. Most of us, fashion-wise, are like the crappy cameraphone photos that aren’t considered art. The upper crust of society and the fashion industry are the ones who wear, and are, art. So, why does it matter what I wear?
It matters because in the end, the mob decides the trends. They may be inspired from who-knows-who-in-Milan, but we decide. Think about Uggs, and Crocs, and sweatpants with words on the butt. So our low fashion may not be the art that inspires models to starve, but it is a sort of art in itself. A social art. It’s not what one person wears, but what the mob wears, and how it changes, and adapts. You are just one of many. So I no longer worry about what I wear in the morning. I’m the barnacle on the great galley of the fashion world. The oarsmen would be the underpaid workers in developing countries. The stewards sitting in the captian’s cabin are the big designers and fashion editors. Who’s the captain? Crap, barnacles can’t steer. This metaphor is terrible. I guess the mob is the waves or the wind or something. The fashion editors can try to steer, but they are at our mercy.
Fashion doesn’t matter. I’m sure it gives lots of people jobs and such but so does the steel industry, and steel doesn’t affect our self-worth every day. We get dressed in the morning and hope someone will compliment us on our quirky yet thought-out outfit. I give up. I give up. Back to the white shirts and the loose jeans.
There is something to be said for the laid back don’t-give-a-care American attitude. I don’t leave home without it.

Sybil Buck is one of my favorite models. She arose in an era where being different was more important than being pretty. She had stark unnaturally colored red hair and a septum ring, and was one of the first true “punk” models. (There were lots of “punk” photo shoots being done at the time but they were not of true punk models, they did not come from that subculture.) She was a favorite of Yves Saint-Laurent, Chanel, Jean-Paul Gaultier, as well as Alexander McQueen.

Islamic Fashion Show
CNN did a little video feature on Islamic fashion:
Does anyone else thing it’s weird to hear the CNN reporter call traditional Islamic women’s clothing “scary”? I’m not a fan of veils and all but geez – it’s just a different culture, it’s not going to eat you. Have something to say about this post? Contact me.
My reinvention of the solitaire
By now, everyone knows I love jewelry. Most of all, I love solitaires. This is an idea that’s been swirling around my brain juices for quite some time, using gold and other alloyed metals as stones – cut like stones, set like stones, but with the intense metallic of metal. Lots of alloys could be used for this, as long as they were water resistant. The metal “stone” doesn’t touch any skin – so no problems with skin reactions or allergies. I think a copper alloy, gold, black rhodium or hematite-like metal. Champagne colors, a deep violet alloy. Possibilities are endless, especially when you consider all the colors titanium can be anodized into.
Gold and silver could be hammered instead of casted or diamond cut. The hammered look is great, and this would elevate it to a very precise level. Silver can be plated lots of colors using alloys.
I reserve all rights to this – and I hope to make it one day, when I have access to a silversmithing studio.
Oh yeah – the band. It could be pyrex glass but I’d start with silver at first – I have no idea how I’d set a stone in glass. Whatever the color of the “stone” is, the band should contrast it.
