Linden Trees
I remember walking around Iasi one day with AM. It was fall, and raining hard. She stood looking at the linden trees, saying, “I love when they rust.” I smiled, and AM’s friend asked me why I’m smiling. I refused to say, and he offered me a ban, and said the Romanian equivalent of “a penny for your thoughts.” I smiled again and said, let’s go underground. With slight hesitation from AM, (a poet), We descended into the depths of the Iasi canals, a haunted version of the city of great loves. We went lower and lower, and I don’t remember ever coming back out. I might still be underground in this pale underground anticity. It’s fall, so I know the trees are bleeding oxidation, somewhere. I could see them if my eyes weren’t bleeding intoxication. One day I’ll come back out, and I’ll go straight to Eminescu’s tree. And I’ll write what he wrote, the stories of my childhood. And I’ll feel what he felt, the longing for the Linden tree, and for the mountains. I think I’ll start with ţara mea…

Have something to say about this post? Contact me.Okay so, I think stars are alive (or do I?)
For one, from a philosophical standpoint, I think life is a human construct and the difference between “natural” processes and human ones is trivial .. and that’s because almost every natural process can fit into the definition of life. For example, stars:
Stars regulate with cycles, like the solar flare cycle, as well as the epic collapsing-at-the-same-time-as-exploding-from-nuclear-fission that makes stars appear constant. Stars have structure, but this might be my weakest point since stars aren’t made of cells. They do have a very defined structure and layers that support the processes I stated above. Stars create a crap-ton of energy, and catabolise (if I may) all elements except for hydrogen. Stars grow and develop over time, they accumulate matter and change their structure accordingly. Stars react to internal and external factors. They shift their luminosity because of factors like eclipsing binaries, as well as rotating stars that produce extreme starspots.

A notable example of an eclipsing binary is Algol, which regularly varies in magnitude from 2.3 to 3.5 over a period of 2.87 days because of Beta Persei 3.
The stimuli stars react to is magnetism, gravity, and extreme temperatures/energy. Stars are also asexual organisms. Our sun was born out of a previous star. Our Sun is the 2nd or 3rd star in this area, which is pretty cosmically young in my opinion. (Not really related to the topic at hand, but interesting nonetheless)
Yeah, I’m supposed to be studying for a geology midterm. Oops.
