I actually kinda like Xtina’s new video and song.

It seems everyone and their mother hates this new video because it’s a ripoff of Gaga and Madonna. I can definitely see the Madonna reference, the video is basically a reverse Express Yourself. The only gaga inspiration I see is bodysuits and sunglasses.
I love love love the video for Express Yourself because it’s based on Metropolis which is one of my favorite movies. I like X-Tina’s take on Metropolis and I actually think the song goes better with the themes rather than Madonna’s. (Lyrics-wise). I like the inverse of where Madonna’s song is sort of anti-superficial and pro-gender roles, this one is more ambivalent and nihilistic (and bisexual), just like Madonna’s milk is white, Xtina’s is black. Other than that I thought the bondage stuff was weak and uninspired. I still think the video’s underrated. It’s really not that bad. And the song is a great dance/club hit.

Oh yeah, I thought the monocle was a nice touch! And speaking of that scene, it her hair and eye makeup totally reminds me of the anime version of Metropolis.

My 2 cents!

Interpretation of Telephone by Lady Gaga by US soldiers stationed in Afghanistan. Brilliant. Don’t ask, Don’t telephone.

Thoughts on horoscopes and keywords…

I think horoscopes are a big pile of baloney, but when I’m bored, I’ll dig around the chinese horoscopes, symbols, things like that. I don’t really know why I do it, I’ve never believed in them. Maybe it’s a wish that symbols carried more meaning, or maybe it’s just my human curiosity.
Regardless, there is a part of horoscopes that I like. They are called “keywords”. There are words for each of the horoscopes – but they apply to all of us, I think, at different parts of our lives.

The keywords are supposed to be words you use when you talk to yourself. Or words that first come to your mind when expressing and describing yourself.

These are the words:

I HAVE
I THINK
I AM ME
I KNOW
I USE
I FEEL
I WILL
I ANALYZE
I BALANCE
I WANT
I AIM
I BELIEVE

Which words do you use often? How would you express or describe yourself?

Personally, I would use I FEEL and I AM ME. I saw that I wrote “I am me and that’s enough” on my facebook profile a couple days ago (before I ran into these keywords). It’s a perfect way to describe me. I’m also centered on feelings and put my worth on emotional strength. The words vary though, depending on what’s going on and such.

Obviously they should probably be re-written for the next generation, who probably only use “Omg” “Wtf” and “lol” in their self-talk. (Okay, who am I kidding, I’ve said lol in my head before.)

Here’s a list of which words go with which horoscopes if you’re interested.
ARIES: “l AM ME”
TAURUS: “I HAVE”
GEMINI: “I THINK”
CANCER: “I FEEL”
LEO: “I WILL”
VIRGO: “I ANALYZE”
LIBRA: “I BALANCE”
SCORPIO: “I WANT”
SAGITTARIUS: “I AIM”
CAPRICORN: “I USE”
AQUARIUS: “I KNOW”
PISCES: “I BELIEVE”

Military killing Reuters Reporters on video

This leaked a couple weeks ago, and was recorded a couple years ago probably. It’s really gutwrenching. This was a peace-keeping mission, allegedly. In the video, a photographer for reuters and his assistant are shot at as well as some civilians, a little girl, and one armed person.

From the source, Wikileaks:

The video, shot from an Apache helicopter gun-site, clearly shows the unprovoked slaying of a wounded Reuters employee and his rescuers. Two young children involved in the rescue were also seriously wounded.

Islamic Fashion Show

CNN did a little video feature on Islamic fashion:

Does anyone else thing it’s weird to hear the CNN reporter call traditional Islamic women’s clothing “scary”? I’m not a fan of veils and all but geez – it’s just a different culture, it’s not going to eat you.

My reinvention of the solitaire

By now, everyone knows I love jewelry. Most of all, I love solitaires. This is an idea that’s been swirling around my brain juices for quite some time, using gold and other alloyed metals as stones – cut like stones, set like stones, but with the intense metallic of metal. Lots of alloys could be used for this, as long as they were water resistant. The metal “stone” doesn’t touch any skin – so no problems with skin reactions or allergies. I think a copper alloy, gold, black rhodium or hematite-like metal. Champagne colors, a deep violet alloy. Possibilities are endless, especially when you consider all the colors titanium can be anodized into.

Gold and silver could be hammered instead of casted or diamond cut. The hammered look is great, and this would elevate it to a very precise level. Silver can be plated lots of colors using alloys.
I reserve all rights to this – and I hope to make it one day, when I have access to a silversmithing studio.

Oh yeah – the band. It could be pyrex glass but I’d start with silver at first – I have no idea how I’d set a stone in glass. Whatever the color of the “stone” is, the band should contrast it.

Styling Youtube Videos on your Blog

Isn’t it weird how I capitalize titles like that sometimes? Moving on.

If you have a blog, chances are you’re going to be using Youtube every now and then. One downfall is that sometimes the video overstretches or is too small for your liking. Another downside is that sometimes you would only like the video to be used for it’s audio. Let’s start with the first issue. So how do you make Youtube videos a smaller size with CSS?

Just assign the embed (I also do the object, for other videos) to a max-width and max-height to a size that will fit nicely in your posts, and add margins as needed.

object,embed {
margin:0 0 18px;
max-width:491px;
max-height:386px;
}

Problem 2. How do you HIDE the video part of a youtube embed and only show the play button & bar for music? This is actually easier than it sounds. Youtube embeds automatically resize gracefully so all you need to do is change the height. Since I don’t want ALL my videos to just be music boxes, I only give this style to a specific class, .musicbox and I use it when needed.

embed.musicbox {
height:25px;
margin:0px;
max-width:237px;
}

Examples: Basshunter – Boten Anna. Lets face it. The video for this song sucks. I give the class musicbox to the inner embed while I write this entry. I’m also gonna center it cause it looks nicer that way. You can do that automatically in the CSS if you want all your musicboxes centered. You can mute and unmute, but you can’t change the volume. What, you wanted to have your cake and eat it too?

This is a clip from the movie Zoolander in Spanish which for some reason makes it alot funnier.. I copied the embed code with the largest size, but my css will still override it. *pets CSS*
